The Bitbot desk is made from a wide range of woods for the top and sides, including hardwoods, softwoods and (hu)man made materials. The Bitbot desk was a follow up idea coming from the shelves of the same series.

The frame is made in solid oak and sapele, giving a great contrast on the hand-cut dovetails.

This jewellery box was made using iroko and spalted beech from the Sandringham Estate. It was made for Irish June as a Christmas present.

The detailed recessed handles on the drawer fronts are made in bog oak as well as the hand sculptured decorative top on the lid. This wood came from the Cambridgeshire Fens and it is thought to be tens of thousands of years old.

The top tray is a sliding tray and also removable.

All joints in this box are hand cut, including all dovetails, as standard in all my work.

This Candidus Lodge Sword Custom Case was a project for a client of a client.

I was asked to make a bespoke case for a sword that Simon Fearnhamm recently made, but his client wanted a special place to keep it in. And you don’t argue with men and swords.

This sword case was made with iroko and walnut details.

The Candidus Lodge Sword is yet another example of my work in collaboration with Raven Armoury.

The engraving on the plaque reads:

CANDIDUS LODGE SWORD

This sword was made in 2018 by Raven Armoury as a replacement for the original Candidus Lodge Sword which was stolen from Grand Lodge.

The original sword was presented to the Lodge by W. Bro Knott-Bolton who was a founder and first treasurer. It was unique in many respects. The blade was made for the same cast of steel as was used on the making of the famous Stalingrad Sword, claimed to be the finest sword steel ever produced in this country. It was designed and fashioned by the same artist and craftsmen who were responsible for the Stalingrad Sword. On the steel blade is embellished the name of the Lodge, together with its Crest and the year of its foundation.

A couple of years ago we adopted a piano that had been abandoned for some years in a shed that was very friendly to the elements. All of them.
This Nathaniel Berry & Sons Ltd. London piano had seen better years since it was made in 1939 but that really seemed like in a different life. And I don’t believe in reincarnation.
We thought we should wait for a while for the piano to get settled in our home and after two years, Covid-19 lockdown struck and it was the perfect time to get on with this job.
In the interim, I also learnt to tune pianos and made my own piano tuning lever with an old spanner, a blow torch and a hammer. But I only used the first one to tune it. The handle was made with spalted beech from the Sandringham Estate.
Today, the piano is in tune and has passed the test of tone.
For the amount of water that fell on top of it from the leaking shed, that really is incredible.
I thought it would be a shame to hide the complicated mechanism behind so I decided to make some glass screens.
The piano stool was also restored and upholstered by me.

I can now play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and sometimes I can sing along.

This stool was ordered by the same client who commissioned the Kutsu tawa Shoe Cabinet, so the design was already thought out and agreed before hand.

I made the shoe cabinet  nearly 10 years previously and the client wanted the new stool to be in the same entrance hall, facing the shoe storage tower. So I just followed the lines and contrasts given by the all-so-glorious oak and walnut partnership.

I made this stool with an opening hinged top as well as a seat, to allow scarves and hats to be placed inside. There is already a place for gloves in the Kutsu Tawa (please see pictures in the link).

This was pretty much all the client wanted, so my canvas was as blank as I like.

Happy days.

The stool was made in oak and walnut, but it can be made in different wood species, or sizes (as a bench, for example).

I’ve been doing some videos which I have uploaded on Youtube, where I film the process of making some of my pieces of furniture and other objects, so please do have a look, like, subscribe and all that! (Thank you)

I was asked to create wooden bulrushes, a small arty crafty undertaking by a client that has a very posh-looking silver vase.
She wondered if I could make some bulrushes to show it off next to her fireplace.
The flower heads are made in English walnut from the very same timber I used a few years ago to make a sideboard for her.
The leaves were made in oak, cut into strips and steam bent (although it was more like stove bent). Not as catchy…

Have a look at the “Edgy Sideboard” here, also made in solid walnut and oak.

My new workbench is finished.

This workbench was made using iroko for the legs, frame and drawer sides and backs. I used oak for the doors, drawer fronts and front and back rails. Air dried spalted beech for the top and vices. This spalted beech is from the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk and was cut into planks to my specifications.

I made it the traditional way, with mortise and tenon joints secured with handmade oak/iroko pegs and hand-cut dovetails. I used forward thinking products for the assembly, like vegan glues and finished with vegan natural oils and vegan wax.
It has two front vices and a tail vice, two very spacious drawers with a shelf next to them and four doors opening for storage.
It also has a removable false floor under the top that collects all shavings and sawdust that may fall through the bench dog holes.
I can finally fix the oily lawnmower on the new top!

These very tactile Balancing Blocks are a great and therapeutic way to pass the time but maybe sometimes get frustrated when they fall. And they will.

Made from oak, walnut, beech, iroko, mahogany, ash, spalted beech, spalted birch, cherry, brown oak, poplar, elm, bog oak, teak, apple wood, sapele, hedge wood, keruing, pine, chipboard and plywood.
The balancing wooden blocks are hand sanded and finished using child friendly natural oil (and vegan).

Toys that last forever, and even better, no batteries needed.

Very zen, om, mindful and all that.

The Walker Sewing Box is going to Surrey and has been commissioned by a quilt maker.

The box and the two removable trays have very specific dimensions to house all her bits and bobbins.

The inside of the lid has a quilted insert especially made by the owner and it is padded to serve as a work in progress holder, needle holder and whatever quilt makers do with their padded boxes.

She wanted the 3D illusion cube design in marquetry (actually parquetry), which is also an iconic pattern used in quilt making.

Made in oak and English walnut with a melange of veneers used in the parquetry pattern on the lid.
As usual, hand-cut dovetails all around the box as well as the trays.
The solid brass tray handles were also hand-made and polished to complement the rest of the solid brass hardware and fixings.
The hinges are designed so they stop at 93˚, allowing the lid to stay opened without the need of a bulky lid stay.
The latch is a spring-loaded pivoting bar that opens when the button is pressed.

A client wanted one Anita’s Trinket Box as a birthday present for his sister Wendy. The design specifications including all dimensions are exactly as the original Anita’s Box. But I was able to play around with different woods here and there.

This box was made with London plane (lacewood) and it is joined together with hand-cut lap dovetails.

The lid was made from a single block of air dried spalted beech from the Sandringham Estate while the plinth and details (drawer handle and escutcheon), drawer runners and guides were made with English walnut. The drawer sides and back are also walnut and dovetail joined.

The hardware is from two different manufacturers, both excellent in reputation and top of the range in quality. The hinges are from Brusso Hardware (USA) and the lock is from Fine Box Hardware (Northern Ireland).

I made the tassel with embroidery cotton yarn (not silk) and the colour red was chosen by my client.

Thank you, Rod, and happy birthday Wendy!
