Some of the natural cracks have been filled, at least the bigger ones, but I left the narrower ones as I thought it gives this tapas board more character. After all, this is bog oak, from a tree that fell thousands of years ago and was submerged by peat, earth, mud and water, with no natural light or oxygen whatsoever. The tannins in the wood react with the minerals and iron salts of the peat and ever so slowly and gently, dye the dead tree into its famous dark brown colour and into black. This process is no more and no less that the beginning of fossilisation, thousands of years pass where the tree is undisturbed while the world evolves around and above it.

The cracks are only the result of this slow-lonely-dark process. Natural history at your table.

The cracks are fully waterproof and will not break, rot or leak.

These are very special bits of wood, really unique in every way. I can make more if you would like some.
