Chest of drawers

I made this chest of drawers from spalted beech which came from the Sandringham Estate, Norfolk. The tree fell naturally and was turned into planks which I air dried at home next to my workshop for many years. I have been using this timber on and off and I never stop amazing myself of the true character and beauty of this species.

The chest of drawers has four drawers. The sides and backs were made from iroko, which I had left overs from a big RAF project I did a while ago. The timber for this project was donated to me by the Sandringham Estate and I always found it to be very stable and perfect for drawer making.

More on that project here!

The drawer fronts were made by using a selection of woods, like sycamore, bog oak, walnut, cedar of Lebanon, mahogany, ash, oak, sapele, beech, spalted beech, cherry, iroko, poplar from and old discarded piano, laburnum, London plane (lacewood), yew, maple, even a bit of good old pine, to give a nice contrast against a darker specie.

The drawer runners are soft close and the handles are made also in spalted beech and iroko.
